Editor 2 doing this, Editor 1 will update in the morning.  Good night blargh.

Industry and multi-console news

  • Next week's Rock Band DLC is a 3-pack of terrible Green Day songs and an 8-pack of Mayhem Fest metal songs, none of which will actually be fun to play.

PC and mobile news

  • Good Old Games update: Crystals of Arborea, Ishar III were added to the Ishar compilation (you can get all 4 games for $5.99!) and Personal Nightmare is now available for $5.99.
  • The terrible indie FPS Merchants of Brooklyn was renamed Drug Wars, possibly to disassociate itself from the dozens of terrible reviews.
  • Piranha Bytes' upcoming game Risen will be released in October after some extensive bug testing, hopefully avoiding the same buggy fate Gothic 3 ended up in.

Nintendo news

  • Apparently the next Zelda game won't be "radically different" from the previous ones.  Somehow I don't expect Nintendo to ever make any changes to their franchises.

Sony news

  • A Home survey asks players what they want so that people will actually visit the game.  Some of the features mentioned (stand up comedy?) are discussed in this article.

A Grease videogame! Just in time!!
Regularly scheduled updates?  Well I'll be damned!

Industry and multi-console news

  • The Chinese "ban on gold farming" is not so much a ban on gold farming as it is banning using in-game currency to buy real items or gamble. That's kind of the inverse of the gold farming problem.
  • Though not exactly gaming news, The Pirate Bay was bought out and will be transformed into a more legal P2P service somehow.  Isn't everyone even halfway intelligent on private trackers now anyway?

PC and mobile news

Nintendo news

  • The top ten most played games on the Wii up to now. I'm actually kind of surprised to see two Harvest Moon titles on there (Rune Factory is Harvest Moon don't try to trick me).

Some character models from the scrapped Aliens RPG. Obsidian can't seem to catch a break.

Industry and multi-console news

  • The entire development team at Blue Omega, developers of Damnation, have been laid off. This could be directly related to the fact that I have never heard of Damnation. (ed 2 note: it was a really mediocre FPS)

PC and mobile news

Sony news

  • According to some kind of Taiwanese hardware site, Sony has signed contracts with two hardware manufacturers to produce the PS3 slim for delivery within the next month.

Some jerks at Neogaf created these super adorable versions of characters we will never see in Scribblenauts.

Industry and multi-console news

  • Apparently laying off a ton of people and throwing millions more dollars at videogames make them good?  Works for THQ!
  • Sega comments on the death of Micheal Jackson, though I feel like it'd be more appropriate if they didn't. Moonwalker really wasn't a shining moment for Jackson's history.
  • Followed by the lead designer from Mass Effect 2 claiming there will be no new game + in ME2, so the continuation into ME3 would be smoother.

PC and mobile news

  • Blizzard says they're planning to have a 4 to 6 month public beta for Starcraft 2.  Also there won't be LAN play in Starcraft 2, what the shit?

Nintendo news

I can't stop staring at this picture long enough to read the explanation, so you go figure it out yourself.

Industry and multi-console news

  • Dio has been replaced by Tim Curry in Brutal Legend because, according to Schafer, the character grew to fit Curry better.
  • Some details about Max Payne 3: Hobo Revenge have been revealed by Game Informer.  New voice actor, cover system, and multiplayer are some of the new stuff.
  • Criterion says that people who claim to have "maxed out" consoles are wrong.

PC and mobile news

Nintendo news

  • New Downloadable Content
    • WiiWare:  Eduardo the Samurai Toaster for 800pts/$8, Rainbow Islands for 800pts/$8, and Let's Catch for 1000pts/$10
    • Virtual Console: Space Harrier (Genesis) for 800pts/$8
    • DSiWare: A goddamn Mario Clock and Mario Calculator for 200pts/$2 a piece.  C'mon.  The press release tries so hard to make this sound interesting.

  • There's going to be a DS version of the new Aliens shooter that's coming out next year. Why?
  • Mario Galaxy 2 is going to have very little story. Mario games aren't exactly known for their amazing epic tales so I'm not too worried.

Sony news

Microsoft news

  • Kotaku blindly speculates that 1 vs 100 may become pay to play after the beta.  My guess is that the season pass automatically schedules each show rather than making you do it manually.

Here's some lovely concept art for Final Fantasy XIV Online.

Another lonely update with no input from Ed. 2. :( Sorry for the embarassing size. Maybe he can add some stuff later.

Industry and multi-console news

  • Bioshock 2 will feature deeper moral choices than kill a child or save a child. They could do literally anything and it would be deeper than that.

PC and mobile news

  • The ESRB is claiming they should be rating iPhone games. This really has nothing to do with protecting children and everything to do with the ESRB wanting more money.

Nintendo news

  • Reggie is really excited to have Team Ninja working on the next Metroid game.

Liveblogging?

Sure, why not! Editor 2 and I were watching the live feed for the EA press conference and realized that liveblogging is just some gaming "journalists" making snarky ass comments. We can totally do that! We doubt anyone will read this, but that's all right because it's just for fun.
Coming up we're going to try liveblogging the Ubisoft press conference. Stay tuned if you like to watch us fail!
